Unique Features: This gym offers amazing competition style boulders and a tight knit community. They often host competitions, markets, and community-focused events and meetups.
Personal Rating: I give this gym a V9 rating.
This is one of my favorite gyms in the Northern NJ area, aside from my home gym, New Jersey Rock Gym. Method is a chic climbing gym with a great community and a lovely cafe. The climbs are primarily competition-style boulder routes, with a few great top rope routes. The boulder routes are challenging and the gym almost always has a climb that for every technical move in the book, and even some routes that include several technical moves in one route. The gym itself is massive and has several slab, overhang, and combination walls. The workout area is extensive, which is great for climbers to strength train and condition outside of climbing. Method hosts climbing casual and professional competitions, meetups for several climbing groups (such as the Climbing Ladies Crew, Asian Ascenders, NJ BIPOC Climbers, and Spectrum Climbers), and even markets that feature local artists and creators. The café offers amazing coffee (especially for the NJ area – coming from a WA state coffee snob!), a variety of delicious teas, and pastries or sandwiches that are a perfect pick-me-up after a tough climbing session.
Overall, I’d recommend this gym to climbers that love competition-style bouldering problems but occasionally like to climb top rope. This is a wonderful home gym for climbers that are consistently trying to challenge themselves and push out of their comfort zone.
